The Review features of storyteller?

The Review features of storyteller?

I checked out the online demo and I tried to post a test review but it wouldn't work. Even in the admin CP it wouldn't show what the review looked like. Is there a way it can be enabled so I can see how it works? I checked out the review sections of some of the sample sites that run storyteller, but I wanted to see what it looked like without any modification.

I also had a few other questions:

1. Is it possible to allow mods or reviews acess to write articles/reviews without giving them full acess to the admin / Mod CP?

2. How exactly do you get images in reviews/articles? Does the storyteller software allow reviews to upload their own images and it auto creates a thumbnail linking to the full version? Will the full version continue to be in the site layout and feature a banner when showing the enlarged version or the thumbnail?

3. Is it possible for the storyteller software to link to images already on the web, but still create a thumbnail and/or a thumbnail on another site and that thumbnail links to the full version on the other site? (Would this be done through just html in the middle of the text of the review/article?

4. I heard you talking about version two and that it may be done late summer. Is it possible to narrow that down any more? Perhaps to a specific month (roughly?) Can you talk about any features in version two OR can you tell me if version two will feature anything new as pertaining to how the software allows reviews to be posted?

If you could answer these questions I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

OK thanks for those answers. I will wait for 2.x hopefully you don't end up rewriting it a 5th time. Smiling Face

I don't know but hope in a few weeks. Please bear in mind that 2.0 is a full rewrite and using a complete different codebase

Yes.

I can't post more details because features may change. The current 2.0 codebase is already my fourth attempt.

Yes, Google has no problem with the Storyteller URLs because there are no session hashes.

I removed the "powered by" and was working on putting it into the footer so that I had more control over where it was placed and the text and link color... that is until I found out the problem with using the include command within the site. Smiling Face

My main worry though is the multiple templates with a site. I am interested in purchasing the full version of Storyteller once the 2.x version is released, but I'd like to know if that release fits into my designing schedule or if I need to begin looking into other portal software that supports multiple templates and the other features I am looking for.

Thanks for all your help!

You need to selected "BB Wrapper" from the dropdown menu. This option becomes available after you copy the bbwrapper.php to your Storyteller root directory.

This should work with a few modifications. The main difference between 2.2/2.3 and 2.0 is that the passwords are stored on the old version in plaintext. I will take a look later.

You need to do a small modificatin in template review_printer.

Add after global $insert;

$insert[review_text] = str_replace("rgb(255, 255, 255)","rgb(0, 0, 0)",$insert[review_text];

This should convert your white text to black

2.x will support multiple templates. The 2.x freeware version will most likely based on the same core script like the licensed version.

Basically they are independent installations which only share the same database. You can login on any of the sites to publish news to all sites. You need to reupload your customized templates on each installation to have the same look and feel.

You need to change the following two lines in bbwrapper.php:

Find:
$asql .= "NOT(forumid = '$forums[$i]')";

and replace with:
$asql .= "forumid = '$forums[$i]'";

Find:
$asql = "WHERE NOT(forumid = '$forums')";

Which vBulletin version are you using? Did you installed the right bbwrapper script?

vb22 = for vBulletin 2.2.x/2.3.x only
vb3 = for vBulletin 3.0.x only

For example: You can't use the vb3 script with vb2

You could add in template review_printer after global $insert something like;

This replace white (ffffff) with black (000000).

Multiple templates within the same website are planned for the 2.x series. The licensed version comes with support for multiple websites (with different templates).

I think I could fix the problem if I could create an extra field for the image that would be at the top, so I would always use that field to upload the header image for the review. Then I could hardcode the table that would go around the review text and it wouldn't appear in the print page. I tried to explain this as best as possible, but if you need a better description or a pic posted, I could provide one.

You may want to customize the print template review_printer

In news? You need to add the following after global $insert; in the story and news template

$insert[story_time] = date("F nS, Y h:i A",strtotime($insert[story_time]));

Your "include" scripts needs to output the HTML in a variable. Then you can use the variable in the template.

7. How do I get it so that unregistered users can comment on articles/news posts?

8. On my reviews, I want to have an image from the product at top before the text of the review starts. However, the problem is that I want the text that is below the image to be in a table with a border for the review to look nicer. The 1st problem in doing this is that when I'm inserting reviews, I have to insert that table html code into the review text field. If set it into the code permanently so I don't have to ever enter it, then the table begins for the review text before the image of the product I want to be at the top is even posted. 2nd when I do this and insert the code for each review, when I go to the print page, that table is in on the print page and has a dark background so that wont work for the print feature. Can you help me fix this problem?

I think I could fix the problem if I could create an extra field for the image that would be at the top, so I would always use that field to upload the header image for the review. Then I could hardcode the table that would go around the review text and it wouldn't appear in the print page. I tried to explain this as best as possible, but if you need a better description or a pic posted, I could provide one.

9. Is it possible to change the reported dates from the format of "2004-08-12" to "August 12th, 2004" and if so how do I do it so that it appears as that on all pages?

10. I seem to be having trouble getting include statements to work in the header and footer. Does the script have a problem with running the include command to grab content from my site and/or other sites that I run?

11. I have a test review called "Quake 4 Review" yet when I do a search in the reviews for "Quake" it brings up nothing. What gives? Also, is it possible to add in the option to search the entire site at a time and not have to pic each individual section of the site to search?

Thank you!

The Review features of storyteller?

The freeware version comes with ~66% of the features of the licensed version and is primary for evaluation and testing purpose. There are no restrictions except to keep the "Powered by" notice on each page.

Some of the limitations:
Features
Some modules such as downloads are not included. The licensed version allows also to manage up to 99 websites from the same admin panel. 3 website licenses are already included in the $99 package.

Support
Support for the freeware version is limited to the forum. Paid customers can also open a support ticket for extended support

Updates
There is no update path to upgrade to a newer version of the freeware version. However, an upgrade to the licensed version from the freeware version is supported.

Is there a page that compares the free version to the purchasable version? I was looking for a side by side comparison that shows what options the free version is missing.

What don't you get with the free version?

Is there a way it can be enabled so I can see how it works? I checked out the review sections of some of the sample sites that run storyteller, but I wanted to see what it looked like without any modification.

Fixed. The online demo is working again. The review module is also included in the freeware version.

1. Is it possible to allow mods or reviews acess to write articles/reviews without giving them full acess to the admin / Mod CP?

Yes

2. How exactly do you get images in reviews/articles? Does the storyteller software allow reviews to upload their own images and it auto creates a thumbnail linking to the full version? Will the full version continue to be in the site layout and feature a banner when showing the enlarged version or the thumbnail?

Yes, reviewers can upload their images in the admin control panel. Thumbnails are also support. The enlarged image page is using a separate template.

3. Is it possible for the storyteller software to link to images already on the web, but still create a thumbnail and/or a thumbnail on another site and that thumbnail links to the full version on the other site? (Would this be done through just html in the middle of the text of the review/article?

No, the CMS can only generate thumbnails of images that are stored in the /images directories

4. I heard you talking about version two and that it may be done late summer. Is it possible to narrow that down any more? Perhaps to a specific month (roughly?) Can you talk about any features in version two OR can you tell me if version two will feature anything new as pertaining to how the software allows reviews to be posted?

Storyteller 2.0 is basically a complete new CMS. I will post more info as soon the first test sites are running the software.
