Just upgraded from Storyteller

I just unsucessfully upgraded from Storyteller. It gave me the success and that everything was alright, but when I visit the page, I get this. (points to the attachment)
The control panel looks fine, but it won't let me open the template window. it isn't on a public facing server just yet, but will be tomorrow. I would like to have this resolved before then.

What is wrong and what can I do to fix it?

Yes, it is safe.

It seems to be working now. Though I have nothing posted under it.

would it safe to delete all of the files from the old installation? They have the same date time stamp, so fairly easy to pick out.

I am still trying to find an explanation for the cache error. What happens if you delete glossary.php in your main directory?

I check on the .htaccess file in both a ftp and ssh session. No .htacess files were any where in the installation, plus I think I have apache set to ignore them anyway. only think close to a htaaccess file is: htaccess.txt

There were 4455 files in the /templates directory

Yes, everything (including the directories) in /templates. I would also check if there is a .htaccess file with rewrite rules for glossary.

Yes, I just uploaded the contentteller over the old directory for various reasons, the main being I couldn't tell what was supposed to go, stay, plus, we had remeinents from the old static html. what do I have to remove?

I can delete everything in the templates folder? There are close to 100 files and 3 directories.

All of the cache directories are 777, and in the main preferences and the individual site preferences/setup it has the file cache turned off. This only occurs in the glossary module, none of the others

Are the old Storyteller files still present? Have you a .htaccess file that rewrites /glossary/ to glossary.php?

How do I fix it? On a system level, I have upgraded from Debian Etch to Ubuntu Fawn

There is an option (Website Charset) under Manage Websites to change the encoding

I have looked in the directory, and didn't see anything that looked like it would be that file, group of files, directory. Don't know what I'm looking for.

I guess there are two many files in the directory. Empty the directory and re-export the template to HTML/PHP files again. The /templates directory in Contentteller will be only used for template set import and export.

Sound like you have the file cache enabled but no write permission in /cache directory. You need to chmod the directory to 777. However, the database cache is far more efficient.

This is an encoding issue. This happens if your previous site was using ISO-8859-1 as default charset and your new installation is using UTF-8

It seems to have imported properly, and working good. I am having another problem though.
On all three active sites I'm getting this error when I click on the glossary link: Error: Can't Write To Cache

Another issue I have run into is that the imported articles and news don't display the single quotes, they display a diamond with a ? in the middle of it.

I tried to export a theme. I couldn't figure out where it exported to.

I might set it up on one of my local servers. I wanted to be able to hand the theme package to the intern and say stay within these constraints on size and what not.

Yes, the site ID's have updated, but the site order for 2 and 3 are now reversed. 2 needs to be 3 and 3 needs to be 2. the pages and articles/reviews are showing all all the sites, but I'm assuming I can edit them to get them to properly display.

I updated the files once again

I downloaded some of the themes that you had in a different section, and took a look at them to see if I could edit them, but the xml file just had hash codes in it. How do I just get a whole theme in one section and just up date it to my needs? Or is that possible? Basically open up an xml or css file in an editor and update graphical elements in a raster graphics program.

The data in the Contentteller template XML is compressed. In order to edit the template in an editor, you need to import the template and then export the template to HTML/PHP files.

The easiest way to work with Contentteller templates is using a local install of Contentteller. I can recommend  MAMP as a local webserver environment for OS X.

Ok, reinstalled the acquire module, uploaded the files, and reacquired from the storyteller db, but to no noticeable difference/effect.

The "Site ID" of the news stories didn't change at all?

Also, my old templates, logos, etc got lost. I'm assuming that I will have to do new ones...?

Yes, you need to redo the entire layout after the new one is using XHTML/CSS

And I'm getting rendering errors in Safari 3 in Mac OS X 10.5.7. There are some others, but that is the most noticeable. I just removed the text to get rid of it.

I am actually using Safari as primary browser. This glitch in the screenshot is caused by the new Contentteller logo, which is larger then the old one. The problem disappear as soon you are uploading a smaller logo.

A better alternative is switching over to the new CSS layout. Select Templates => Manage Styles => Edit and then save the new layout. This will overwrite the old 2008 CSS with the new 2.0.3 CSS.

I patched a few files for your installation. Download the attached zip and upload the files to your /cadmin/acquire directory. The import should now import the data to the right websites.

I imported everything with the import script, reviews, articles, news, etc. I just need to re-segregate everything back to the proper sites. Hopefully not manually because there are close to 300 stories between them.

A few modification are necessary. Are you only importing news stories?

I just upgraded the other two sites, but it didn't prompt me for the data to be imported. When I goto them it shows the posts from the other two sites on the two updated sites, but the information isn't segregated.

I'm guessing because the old sites had the site ID of 4 and 6, and the updated ones 2 and 3. How do I segregate them properly?

Have you setup 3 Contentteller websites? You need to install Contentteller on the other two sites as well. The installer will recognize the existing installation and will add it as new site.

Ok, it brought the data in. but it is just showing it all under the one website, or will I have re-segregate the data?

It looks like I have lost all the articles and reviews and content from storyteller. it is completely empty. Plus, it doesn't seem to remember the other two sites on the back end as well, just the main one.

Actually, you can't upgrade a Storyteller database directly to Contentteller because Contentteller is a complete rewrite from scratch.

The proper way to upgrade from Storyteller to Contentteller:

1) Install Contentteller as a fresh install. You actually did that.
2) Download the  Acquire module and install it
3) Set under “Acquire Preferences” the database login and name of your Storyteller installation.
4) Import the data with “Acquire Now”. However, it is not possible to import the templates/design of a previous Storyteller installation after Contentteller is using a modern XHTML/CSS layout while Storyteller is fully table-based with hardcoded values.

You can run Storyteller and Contentteller side-by-side during this phase.

Once I put in the www infront of the domain name, it worked fine. Is this going to happen everytime someone tries the site with just the DomainName.com -- Reserve Your Place In Cyberspace with DomainName.com Domain Name Registration Services! ?

No, usual both should work, but that depends on your server setup.

What do I do now? restore the database from the back up?

The data is still there.

Possibly a wrong website URL/path.

Can you check the URL at Main / Manage Websites => Edit => Website URL? The URL must include http:// and the full path to your Contentteller installation. For example, your installation is in a subdirectory called cms then you must set the URL to  http://www.yourwebsite/cms
