How do I integrate Contentteller with a forum application?

[ Print | Permalink ]

Contentteller supports the integration with the following PHP/MySQL based forums applications: vBulletin 2.x, vBulletin 3.0, vBulletin 3.5, vBulletin 3.6, vBulletin 3.7, UBB.threads 7.x, IP.Board 2.x, MyBB 1.2, MyBB 1.4, Simple Machines Forum 1.1, Simple Machines Forum 2.0, and phpBB 3.

The integration allow any user that is registered on your forum to login on your Contentteller site to post comments or use private areas such the trouble ticket system. However, the admin backend will still use the Contentteller user database for security reasons.

Here as example the integration with vBulletin 3.7:

During the installation you can choose a forum solution that should integrate with Contentteller

Now you can configure the integration script. You can set the Cookie prefix and/or path, the user groups, the vBulletin license number (in case you choose vB 3.x or higher), the table prefix, the path to your forum installation, as well the forum database configuration.

The installation automatically fills in the right default user group settings for each forum solution. If you have additional user groups, you need to add them to the right field. Use spaces to separate each user group.

vBulletin 3.x and higher require an 8-digit license number after all vBulletin generated cookies will use a hash that based on this number.

Another thing that is supported by all integration scripts (expect vBulletin 2.x) is the ability to use the forum for comments. In order to use this function you may need to active it for each module (news, articles, knowledgebase, files) in the preferences sections.

If you post a new story, article, knowledgebase entry, or file you should see an option "Use the following forum for comments". If you choose a forum from that list, Contentteller will post a new thread in that forum and use this thread for the comments.

The end result will look like this on your main site ...

.. and like this on your forum.
